Open cut sewer line excavation

The process of digging a trench through a section of the yard—either by hand or with an excavator—to expose the entire sewer or water line in order to repair or replace.

Trench-less Pipe-Bursting Spokane

Pipe-bursting sewer line replacement is the process of pulling a new pipe through the current damaged line and bursting out the old line as a result. This task typically requires two openings in the sewer or water line—one for new pipe entry, and another for the exit.

Sewer Pipe-Lining Spokane

Cured-in-Place Pipe relining involves inserting an epoxy saturated felt tube into the pipe—requires a line to be dug up or jackhammered through—inflating it and letting it cure in place. Essentially, after the liner has cured, new pipe is fitted within the old pipe. This is a minimally invasive option that rehabilitates the existing drainage pipe without having to tear it out and replace it.

Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement In Spokane

Action Excavation is a leader in trenchless sewer line replacement in the Spokane area.   Our goal is to minimize unnecessary costs, disruption, and minimize digging as much as is possible.   We always look for the opportunity to use a trenchless solution first.   In most cases, our technicians will locate the issue in the sewer pipe with our video camera and locating tools.

Action Excavation provides both methods of trenchless sewer line replacement:  Pipe Bursting and Cured-in-Place-Pipe.    Both of these methods are illustrated below.  We can excavate a single hole to access the known issue and fix it. We can then reline the rest of the pipe upstream and downstream with no further excavation. In the worst case scenario, we can excavate the entire length of the sewer lateral pipe and replace it. Safety and protection and preservation of property are our top priorities in all of our projects.

TRENCHLESS PIPE BURSTING

PIPE BURSTING HEAD PULLS THE NEW SEWER LINE INTO PLACE

Pipe bursting requires two holes: An entry pit and an exit pit.   A pipe-bursting head is inserted into the old pipe and is pulled through the old pipe with a cable from the Hydraulic Bursting Unit located in the exit pit.

As the bursting head expands and breaks the old pipe into pipe fragments, the new sewer line is pulled through to replace the old sewer line.

TRENCHLESS PIPE RELINING

"CURED IN PLACE PIPE": AN EPOXY RESIN IS PUMPED INTO OLD PIPE AND CREATES NEW INNER PIPE

Sewer pipe re-lining uses a process of injecting an epoxy into a felt based tube that is then pushed through the old sewer line.  As its name suggests, the epoxy material will cure and harden in place, resulting in a brand new interior pipe.

This method is the least disruptive as it can usually be accomplished with digging of only one hole or pit for the new epoxy material to be inserted into the old sewer line.  In the worst case scenario, we can excavate the entire length of the sewer lateral pipe and replace it. Safety and protection and preservation of property are our top priorities in all of our projects.

OPEN CUT EXCAVATION

SOMETIMES THE LOCATION, CONDITION, AND OBSTACLES MAKE OPEN CUT EXCAVATION THE ONLY OPTION
Open Cut Excavation for Sewer Lines

In certain cases, its just not possible to use any of the trenchless sewer line replacement methods and an open cut trench will have to be dug to replace the old sewer line.

WHY DOES MY SEWER LINE NEED REPLACING?

If you are experiencing any of the situations described below, and you don't know if or when the sewer line was last cleaned, maintained or replaced, then these indications may be that your sewer line may need repair, or replacing:

  1. Persistent Blockages: If you frequently encounter blockages or slow drainage in multiple drains throughout your home, it could indicate a problem with the main sewer line.

  2. Foul Odors: A strong, persistent sewage odor in your yard or inside the house, particularly near drains or the yard where the sewer line runs, might suggest a leak or break in the line.

  3. Pooling Water: Puddles or areas of lush grass growth in the yard, even when there hasn't been recent rainfall, could signal a leaking sewer line underground.

  4. Backups and Overflow: Sewage backing up into sinks, toilets, or other drains is a clear indication of a significant issue within the sewer line.

  5. Multiple Clogs: If you've tried various methods to clear clogs (such as plunging or using drain cleaners) and they keep reoccurring in different drains, it might be due to a problem in the main sewer line.

  6. Cracks or Sinkholes: Visible damage to your yard, such as sinkholes, cracks, or unusually damp or sunken areas, might signify a collapsed or damaged sewer line.

  7. Age of the Sewer Line: If your home is older, and the sewer line is made of outdated materials like clay or Orangeburg pipes, they might have deteriorated over time and need replacement.

If you notice any of these signs, it's advisable to consult with a sewer line specialist at Action Excavation to assess the situation and determine whether replacement is necessary. Regular inspections and maintenance can also help prevent severe issues with your sewer line.

Occasionally the sewer lateral deteriorates to the point that it collapses due to age, corrosion, tree roots, ground movement or a combination of these factors. There are some conditions such as pipe collapse, severely offset joints, etc. that may require excavation.
